Here at Mahalo Swim, we want to stay connected with our female community, to learn, grow, understand and support one another. We are more than just a bikini, we are a family and our goal is to shed light on common challenges we face in our day to day lives. In this blog we will be introducing some females within our community and getting to know them on a more raw level. We hope you can find some relevance and tips within the discussions in this blog.
MEET GEORGIA | @georgikellyy
Georgia lives in Sydney, Australia and is a model & content creator whilst also studying at University. Georgia occasionally uses her Instagram to touch on challenges she faces in every day life, which we admire and thought could potentially benefit a lot of other girls!
Question 1: What is your favourite thing about / to do in Summer?
I love being in the ocean and I absolutely adore the long, warm afternoons from daylight savings.
Question 2: What do you love about our swimwear & brand?
How much confidence it gives me when I wear it, I just think the pieces are so classic and timeless that they can suit everyone’s shape and figure.
Question 3: What do you struggle with in terms of insecurities and mental health? How do you deal with this?
I struggle with a neurodevelopment disorder called ADHD which effects many people from a young age however mine is one of the highest forms and it is permanent and if anything increasing rather than slowing down. It doesn’t only affect my ability to pay attention and a lot of mainstream ‘symptoms’ it affects me in absolutely everything I do and how I communicate. I also have struggled with depression and debilitating anxiety which is apparently driven by my adhd. I don’t take medication as there’s history of addiction in my family so it really a lot of mind, body and spirit based things I use to deal with all of it. I recognize when my mental health is affecting my day and I cut myself some slack but I will always try to journal and move and take time to breathe or manifest and reflect - but I definitely have some days, weeks or even months where I let it take control because I know there’s no other way than to just give myself rest and let it go itself.
Question 4: At what age did you start to notice yourself feeling this way and thinking these types of patterns?
Adhd has been honestly since my first few years, I was also tested for Aspergers and the spectrum a few times but the anxiety and depression started in around year 8 when I had my first panic attack. I was only diagnosed with adhd 2 months ago at age 20, which made it hard considering I was constantly punished and bullied for the way I was growing up, even though I couldn’t help it.
Question 5: Do you feel like you hide your emotions in regards to this topic well or do you talk about them?
I love talking about my mental health and my adhd especially, I get told not to kind of use it as a title or blame it but it really takes over a lot of things even thinks I love about myself like my no filter humor so I’m almost proud to wear it sometimes. I think it’s a gift and can be a curse!
Question 6: What would be some advice for girls in the same position as you that you could pass on from your own experience?
PSYCHOLOGY!!!!! Psychology is for everyone at any time! It helps so so much, I couldn’t recommend it more! You will find out and understand so much about yourself and I understand it’s expensive so even talking to the beyond blue hotline or something similar, and looking into HeadSpace or researching things your feeling really helps you understand and take action. - TW.
For our generation, I think it’s also important to address body and facial dysmorphia. Getting your mind over matter will help. If you feel this way, please remember you are beautiful and to take on research and talk to somebody about this as well. I’m here if anyone needs to talk, please feel free to DM me on Instagram. I love you all! X
